Is the US-China Trade War Good for the Environment? The Impact of the 2018 US-China Trade War on US Importer Sustainable Supply Management Strategies and Their Supplier Emission Reduction

Examines how the US-China tariff war and the resulting supply chain restructuring influence buyer greenhouse gas emissions, buyer supply chain governance, and supplier emission disclosure. Uses a difference-in-differences design on US publicly listed firms that imported from China and were affected by US tariffs, complemented with transshipment Bill of Lading data. Reshoring might be beneficial for the environment, while diversifying sourcing strategies might be detrimental.
